Why we exist
My grandfather loomed large in my life, though I never met him. I knew him entirely through the stories my family told, and those stories made him real to me.
My grandmother was the keeper of them. When she developed dementia and then passed away, the stories went with her. One day they were there. The next, they were simply gone.
