Why we built our own
Recording a life is not like answering a survey. It moves in loops, not straight lines: one memory pulls up another, and a question you skipped at twenty becomes the one you most want to answer at seventy. Off-the-shelf tools are not built for that. So we built our own, shaped entirely around how remembering actually works.
Your whole book, open from day one
From the first time you sign in, your entire book already exists. Every chapter, every question, laid out in full. You can see the shape of the whole thing and move through it however you like, because your story does not arrive one piece at a time, and neither should the place you write it.
A framework built on research
The questions are a framework, developed over years of research into how people make sense of a life, and engineered to reach for specific details that bring a whole world back. Behind every question is a deliberate decision about what it is there to uncover.
Speak it or type it, on any device
We built voice input directly into the Studio, so you can simply talk and watch your words appear, or type if you prefer. It runs in any browser, on any device, with nothing to download and nothing to set up. Every word saves the moment you write it, so you can stop mid-sentence, close the laptop, and pick up months later exactly where you left off.
An editorial layer that keeps your voice
When you finish a chapter, you can keep your words exactly as they are, or hand them to your biographer. We built the editing layer to do one precise thing: clear away the repetition and the false starts that come with speaking, while leaving your voice, your phrasing and your meaning completely intact. Your original and edited answers sit side by side, and the final word is always yours. You sound more like yourself, not less.
Complete control, from start to finish
From the moment you start your project to the moment you commit it to print, nothing is finalised and everything stays editable. Change a word, rewrite an answer, reopen a chapter, move freely between chapters, or answer a question again. Nothing is final until you say so, and your book is ready only when you decide it is.
This is by design. Working through a life is rarely a straight line. As you move through your chapters, memories surface that you did not expect, and you may find you want to go back and rework something you wrote weeks ago. We built the Studio so you can, right up until the moment it goes to print.
